Moving Bed Carbonate Looping (MBCL) Phase II

The objective of the project, MBCL phase II is twofold; one is to demonstrate the functionality and performance potential of a moving bed carbonating looping reactor (cold) and the other is to develop mechanically stable doped dolomite pellet prepared in the MBCL phase I.

Cold flow MBCL reactor consists of multi-channel carbonator, calciner MBR and riser will be built in the proposed MBCL phase II, equal to the hot rig design. Initially, alumina spheres will be used to mimic the real solid sorbent spheres with identical size. The cold flow MBCL reactor test programme shall be preparatory for later long term hot reactor testing, whereas the developed chemically stable doped dolomite pellet of MBCL phase II will be further characterized to study the mechanically stability, suitable for the industrial MBCL operation conditions.

Apart from this a proper kinetic study of the mechanical stable pellets will be done in order to develop kinetic model, which will be implemented MBCL hot (numeric) reactor model, which will provide the key data for hot MBCL reactor design, that will be built in the MBCL phase III. The reactor model developed in the MBCL phase I is lacking on several key input parameters, i.e., kinetic model, which depends on the material, heat transfer coefficient.

So, experiment will be done using catalytic combustor integrated with moving bed calciner (CatComb), to measure heat transfer coefficient.
