Scientific and commercial drilling for CO₂ storage appraisal

Step 1 aims to develop, submit and follow up an application for a CCS-motivated scientific drilling under the auspices of IODP (Integrated Ocean Drilling Program).
The pre-proposal shall contain a draft of possible drilling sites based on a screening of seismic data on the Norwegian / UK side of the sector boundary and an argumentation on which scientific questions are to be answered through drilling and sampling.

The project will also develop a broad scientific partnership to support the application.
If the application for IODP is successful, data and cores from the drilling operation will be extremely useful for future CO₂ storage projects. In addition, an effort from Norway and the UK for a common understanding of “cross border” aquifers will be an important part of the project.
