Participation as expert in ISO TC 265 Work Group 3 on CO₂ Storage and related activities

A Norwegian ISO TC265 committee was established in 2012 with Standard Norway as secretariat and Gassnova as chairman. The members of this committee include Statoil, DNV, PSA, Norcem, Tel-Tek and others.

It is the intention that Norway will participate with a minimum of two people in each of the 6 Working Groups (capture, transport, storage, cross-cutting topics, as well as monitoring & quantification) so that there is always at least one participant in meetings etc. This process is underway and DNV participates in all the groups and they have a good feeling for the process in the work. DNV has also participated in the preparation of the North American standard.
From a national point of view, it is important to staff these with personnel from Norway who have good knowledge of the Norwegian offshore storage projects (Sleipner and Snøhvit) so that standards are not too much influenced by onshore experience from the USA / Canada where the work of developing standards has gone further than in the EU.

It is expected that the work in ISO TC 265 will take a maximum of 3 years, but it is possible that WG Storage can do the work in 2 years. Progress will depend both on the international ISO procedures and on the ability to create consensus on difficult topics such as monitoring needs and well specifications.
