Basin and Petroleum System Modelling Relevance for CCS

The idea behind the project is to test whether the techniques used in so-called bass modeling can be useful for studying and quantifying lateral migration of CO₂ in an aquifer. If the results are promising, this will be followed up with an application to the business community to continue the work with a view to expanding functionality in the relevant simulators for CCS.

The potential of the project is to use techniques that provide a better description of how CO₂ moves / flows in an aquifer over long (geological scale) periods. The aim of the project is to assess the applicability and potential of pool simulators in CCS.
