Background and project purpose?
Improve the prerequisites for future carbon capture from the new gas purification technology for silicon carbide production in Lillesand.
What was the project objective?
The goal of the project was to define the important parameters for carbon capture from Fiven’s flue gas and to increase the proportion of CO2 in a combined flue gas from multiple furnaces through individual measurements of CO2 and the development of control strategies for the gas purification plant.
What has the project done in terms of activities?
Fiven has established contact with multiple carbon capture suppliers. A collaboration was initiated between Fiven and technology providers to assess the feasibility of a carbon capture pilot in Lillesand.
Measurements of CO2 and CO have been conducted from several Acheson furnaces. Multiple tests have been carried out to increase the concentration of CO2 and to reduce variations in the flue gas.
What has the project achieved? Did the project achieve its objective?
The project has provided a better understanding of the carbon capture technologies most suitable for Fiven’s flue gas and the requirements they impose on the flue gas. Throughout the testing period, Fiven has managed to demonstrate a significant increase in CO2 in the flue gas and has developed several new control strategies to further enhance this.
Future plans?
Continue testing and measuring CO and CO2 from individual furnaces and work towards a carbon capture pilot in Lillesand.
