Side events CLIMIT Summit 2025
In keeping with tradition, CLIMIT Summit 2025 will also feature a number of side events prior to the Summit itself. Below you will find more information on each of the side events we are organising on 26 February 2025. For some of the events, we will come back with more details on the programme.
26 February from 08:30-09:30 CO2 Storage
Large-scale CO2 storage on the Norwegian continental shelf – Can collaboration on monitoring lead to a reduction in risk and costs?
Over the course of 20 years, the CLIMIT programme has supported numerous projects aimed at developing various monitoring technologies for future storage sites. We see that the issues for operators and professional communities have evolved, and today we face new and different challenges compared to when Sleipner began its first injection of CO2.
Monitoring is required according to EU Directive 2009. The allocated storage licenses on the Norwegian continental shelf are clustered closely together. How should we manage the monitoring of storage sites in the future? Can collaboration on monitoring lead to a reduction in risk and costs?
Come and listen to operators, professional communities and authorities talk about these issues. Together, we can save significant costs if we are innovative, and this is where we need your help. In what ways can the CLIMIT programme contribute to addressing new challenges within the field of monitoring? Meet us at this side event in Larvik on 26 February.

26 February from 08:30-09:45 Technology Centre Mongstad
The Technology Centre at Mongstad (TCM) will showcase its extensive experience gained from hosting a variety of technology developers and conducting comprehensive test campaigns over more than 13 years of operation. Through these efforts, TCM has accumulated deep knowledge of capture plant performance and operation.
Recognizing our unique position within the carbon capture community, TCM has consistently shared this valuable knowledge with industry stakeholders. During this event, TCM will highlight the key challenges the industry is likely to face and demonstrate how TCM can play a pivotal role in supporting the carbon capture community both now and in the future.

26 Februar from 08:30-11:00 CCUS Standardization
Technical standardization for CCUS is important, both for industry and regulators in Norway and globally. Standards provide tools to reduce costs, bridge gaps in frameworks and contracts, and will be crucial to ensure public support. CLIMIT has supported the development of standards since the inauguration of Standard Norway’s committee SNK/544, the Norwegian Mirror Committee to Technical Committee 265 for CCS and CO2-EOR under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 265). SNK/544 is also mirroring the Technical Committee 474 for CCUS under European Committee for Standardization (CEN/TC 474), which was established in 2023. After more than a decade of standardization activities, a number of standards and technical reports, including methodologies and other tools have been developed and published under ISO/TC 265, making a global impact on the deployment of large-scale CCUS activities. A number of countries have adopted the standards as national standards or are actively using the standards in their policy and legal frameworks, and project developers have seen the benefit of the standards for site selection, characterization, and quantification and verification activities. ISO/TC 265 is also providing CEN/TC 474 with a solid foundation for further and more Euro-centric standards, which is aiming at adopting a number of the ISO standards as European standards. With the European Commission aiming at taking standards more actively into use for CCUS frameworks moving forward, the CLIMIT-supported efforts will have an even bigger impact in the years to come, in reducing risks, costs and uncertainties, and enabling financial incentives and cross-border value chains.

26 February from 10:00-11:00 ECCSEL ERIC
ECCSEL ERIC is the European Research Infrastructure for CCUS, and we support the implementation of the Industrial Carbon Management Strategy of the EU. ECCSEL offers open access to more than 100 world class research facilities in our member countries. The ECCSEL partners contribute with their competence and know-how to skills development of visitors to our facilities. We have a particular priority to meet the needs of industry within CCUS research when we develop our research infrastructure. Recently, ECCSEL has extended our scope to include sustainable underground energy storage. Join our side event and get a complete overview of how your research gaps can be covered within the ECCSEL infrastructure.
