Benchmarking VE simulation methods against seismic history at Sleipner

The project will perform history adaptation on the Sleipner dataset.

Three main uncertainties will be explored.
U1: Vertical transmissibility (the permeability of “holes” in the slate packages in Sleipner that allow CO₂ to migrate vertically in the system).
U2: CO₂ uptake in the formation water (solution).
U3: Reservoir temperature. U1 is the main factor that controls how the CO₂ plume moves vertically from layer 1 to layer 9, while dissolution and reservoir temperature are secondary.

Therefore, the project will mainly focus on U1, followed by U2 and if there is time, U3 will also be investigated last.

VE methods have shown that one can simulate Utisra plumen with high accuracy, with reduced calculation cost. Reduced calculation time implies that large parameters can be tested and additional processes can be tested which can provide a more reliable estimation of the geological model
