The project includes:
- Studies of sorption of CO2 in nano-pores such as in clays.
- Studies of migration of CO2 in meso-pores such as in rocks.
- Studies of coupled sorption and migration of CO2 in dual porosity systems.
Recent results: Certain clays may retain CO2 up to 30 C at ambient pressure. In cases when CO2 or equivalent fluids are injected into deformable porous media, a rich phase diagram of labyrinth-like and fractal structures are observed and explained by simulations. Supercritical CO2 in reservoir like situations in porous media can be studied and understood by means of neutron scattering methods.
