The overall objective of this proposal is to understand, on a molecular level, the actual properties that make the promising de-mixing solvent systems work so well and to exploit this knowledge to develop even better systems targeting a real break-through in solvent technology.
In 2016 we have prepared a series of model solvents through systematic variation of the molecular structure. This has given insight into the molecular basis of solvent phase separation upon CO2 loading. All model solvents are performance tested. A complete quantitative molecular analysis (full speciation) has been prepared for all solvents at lean and rich CO2 loading.
